STRICTLY head judge Shirley Ballas has been left “utterly devastated” and in agony after picking up a hamstring injury which will force her to pull out of dancing as planned in the final.
The star will have to be assisted to her judging chair by staff insisting “the show must go on”, but sources say she is heartbroken that the biggest night of her year is set to be derailed by the freak accident picked up while performing in pantomime.
Contingency plans have been put in place to help her get around the set if necessary.
An insider explained: “It’s a huge blow for Shirley and she’s massively disappointed – but she’s a total professional too so she will do everything possible to make sure viewers barely noticed.
“It was an accident while she was dancing which caused it, and she had to leave the stage for treatment immediately – she knew straight away it was going to cause her problems this weekend.
“It’s the biggest night of her year and she was really looking forward to dancing but now sadly that isn’t going to be possible – she’s going to be chair bound.
“But she knows she was lucky not to do more damage and that there was medical help on hand at the time to treat the injury straight away.”
Shirley has been appearing as Mother Nature in Jack and the Beanstalk at the Darlington Hippodrome alongside her role on the BBC1 show – having met her now boyfriend Daniel Taylor during a pantomime run last Christmas.
The show sees the couple reunited on stage, with Shirley telling earlier this year how she is “happier than ever” thanks to the romance.Source: Read Full Article
